Federal Writers' Project

The Federal Writers' Project was a United States federal government project created to provide employment for historians, teachers, writers, librarians, and other white-collar workers during the Great Depression. It was part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) and operated from 1935 to 1943. The project is best known for its American Guide Series, which compiled detailed travel guides to the then 48 states, as well as for its collection of oral histories and folklore.
