Benvenuto Cellini

Benvenuto Cellini was an Italian goldsmith, sculptor, draftsman, soldier, musician, and artist who also authored a famous autobiography. He is remembered as one of the most important artists of Mannerism. He was born in Florence, Italy, on November 3, 1500, and his works include the Cellini Salt Cellar and Perseus with the Head of Medusa. Cellini's life was as dramatic as his work, and his autobiography gives a detailed account of the Renaissance period from the perspective of an artist. He died on February 13, 1571, in Florence.
