Antònio Ferreira

António Ferreira (1528–1569) was a Portuguese poet and playwright who is considered one of the leading figures of the Portuguese Renaissance. He is best known for his work 'Poemas Lusitanos' and his tragedy 'A Castro', which is based on the life of Inês de Castro, a noblewoman who had a tragic love affair with King Pedro I of Portugal. Ferreira's writings are characterized by their classical influence and the use of the Portuguese language, rather than Latin, which was common at the time.
