Robert Herrick

Robert Herrick was a 17th-century English lyric poet and cleric. He is best known for his book of poems, 'Hesperides', which includes the famous carpe diem poem 'To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time'. Herrick's poetry is characterized by its wit, charm, and celebration of the pastoral life and classical themes. He was born in 1591 in Cheapside, London, and lived during the times of Elizabeth I and Charles I, surviving the turmoil of the English Civil War. His work was influenced by classical Roman poetry, and he is considered one of the Cavalier poets.
