John Mortimer

John Mortimer was an English barrister, dramatist, screenwriter, and author. He is best known for creating the character Horace Rumpole, inspired by his own career in the legal profession, and for writing the Rumpole series of legal dramas. Mortimer was also a prolific writer of novels, plays, and television scripts, and was recognized for his witty and satirical style. He was appointed a Knight Bachelor for his services to the arts in 1998 and continued to write until his death in 2009.
