Kamala Das

Kamala Das, also known as Kamala Surayya and by her pen name Madhavikutty, was a prominent Indian English poet and a leading Malayalam author from Kerala, India. Her open and honest treatment of female sexuality, free from any sense of guilt, infused her writing with power, but also marked her as an iconoclast in her generation. She wrote on a diverse range of topics, often disparate from her own life and identity, and her works include novels, short stories, autobiographies, and essays. Das was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for her outstanding literary work.
