Janusz Korczak

Janusz Korczak, born Henryk Goldszmit in 1878, was a Polish-Jewish educator, children's author, and pediatrician. He is renowned for his innovative work in the field of education and for his dedication to children's rights. Korczak was the director of an orphanage in Warsaw, where he implemented progressive educational practices. He believed in treating children with respect and understanding, emphasizing the importance of listening to their voices and perspectives. Korczak remained with his orphans when they were deported to the Treblinka extermination camp during World War II, where he perished alongside them in 1942. His life and work have inspired educators worldwide and continue to influence child advocacy and educational practices.
