Leon Trotsky

Leon Trotsky was a Marxist revolutionary, theorist, and Soviet politician. Born Lev Davidovich Bronstein on November 7, 1879, in Ukraine, he played a leading role in the Bolshevik revolution of 1917. Trotsky served as the People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs and later as the founder and commander of the Red Army. He developed the theory of 'permanent revolution' and was a fierce critic of Stalinism. After losing a power struggle to Joseph Stalin, Trotsky was exiled and eventually assassinated in Mexico in 1940.
