Antanas Škėma

Antanas Škėma was a Lithuanian writer, playwright, and actor. Born on November 29, 1910, in Łódź, he is best known for his novel 'The White Shroud' (Balta drobulė), which is considered a masterpiece of Lithuanian literature. Škėma's work often reflects his personal experiences, including themes of exile, identity, and the human condition. He spent much of his life abroad after World War II, living and working in Germany, France, and the United States, where he continued to write and participate in the cultural life of the Lithuanian diaspora until his death in a car accident on August 11, 1961.
