José Craveirinha

José Craveirinha was a renowned Mozambican poet, widely considered one of the greatest African poets of the 20th century. He was born on May 28, 1922, in Maputo and passed away on February 6, 2003. Craveirinha's work is characterized by a blend of African oral traditions and modern styles, often focusing on themes such as colonialism, racism, and the struggle for Mozambican independence. His poetry also explored the complexities of identity and cultural heritage. He was awarded the Camões Prize, the most prestigious award for literature in the Portuguese language, in 1991.
