Erich Kastner

Erich Kästner was a German author, poet, screenwriter, and satirist, known primarily for his humorous, socially astute poetry and children's literature. Born in Dresden, Germany, in 1899, Kästner became famous for works such as 'Emil and the Detectives' and 'Lottie and Lisa' (which inspired the film 'The Parent Trap'). His works often featured sharp social criticism and a distinctive wit, making him one of the most important German writers of the 20th century. Despite facing censorship and book burnings during the Nazi regime, Kästner continued to write and remain in Germany throughout World War II. He passed away in 1974 in Munich.
