Kiran Nagarkar

Kiran Nagarkar was an acclaimed Indian novelist, playwright, and screenwriter known for his works in both Marathi and English. Born on April 2, 1942, in Mumbai, he initially gained recognition for his debut novel in Marathi titled 'Saat Sakkam Trechalis' (translated as 'Seven Sixes Are Forty Three'), which is considered a landmark in post-independence Indian literature. Nagarkar is also well-known for his English-language novels such as 'Ravan and Eddie', 'Cuckold' (for which he won the Sahitya Akademi Award), and 'God's Little Soldier'. His writing is appreciated for its wit, satire, and keen observation of social issues. Kiran Nagarkar passed away on September 5, 2019.
