Pepita Jimenez by Juan Valera y Alcalá-Galiano
Pepita Jimenez is the first novel of the diplomat , politician and writer Spanish Juan Valera , published in 1874. Following the model of Cervantes , Valera suggests the recovery of a manuscript found in the papers of a cathedral in Andalusia , in which it is narrated (in two parts, a first epistolary and a final and narrative) a story about some characters those who will change the name to preserve their identity. In the time of Valera, the work received very favorable opinions from the reading public and literary criticism, being translated into ten languages. Isaac Albéniz wrote an opera in 1895 based on this work.
