“Glosses” is a category for books that foreground annotation, commentary, and conversation with other texts. It includes traditional annotated editions and line-by-line commentaries; translations with interlinear or extensive notes; scholarly or devotional exegesis; and creative works that use marginalia, footnotes, redaction, erasure, or citation as a core narrative device. Whether clarifying, challenging, remixing, or extending a source, these books are built to be read alongside another text—explicitly or implicitly—so that meaning arises from the interplay between primary text and commentary.
