Shōjo (also written shojo or shoujo) is a Japanese category originally aimed at girls roughly aged 10–18 that centers on character-driven, emotionally rich stories about romance, friendship, identity and coming of age. It’s known for expressive, often ornate artwork and intimate storytelling that prioritizes relationships and inner life over action-heavy plots; common settings and tropes include school life, first love, love triangles, and magical-girl or fantasy elements.
