Jaroslav Seifert

Jaroslav Seifert was a renowned Czechoslovak writer, poet, and journalist. Born on September 23, 1901, in Prague, he became a leading figure in the Czech literary scene. Seifert was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1984 for his poetry which, 'endowed with freshness, sensuality and rich inventiveness, provides a liberating image of the indomitable spirit and versatility of man.' His work often reflected on love, beauty, and the pursuit of human freedom, and he was also noted for his opposition to totalitarianism. Seifert passed away on January 10, 1986, in Prague.
