Frigyes Karinthy

Frigyes Karinthy was a Hungarian author, playwright, poet, journalist, and translator known for his satirical humor and keen wit. Born on June 25, 1887, in Budapest, he became a significant figure in Hungarian literature, contributing to the modernist movement. Karinthy is perhaps best remembered for his concept of 'six degrees of separation' in his 1929 short story 'Chains' (Láncszemek). He was also a member of the influential literary group Nyugat (West). Karinthy's diverse body of work includes novels, essays, and science fiction, and he remains a celebrated figure in Hungarian culture. He passed away on August 29, 1938, in Siófok, Hungary.
