Ethel Lilian Voynich

Ethel Lilian Voynich was a British novelist and musician, most famous for her novel 'The Gadfly', published in 1897. The book became very popular in Russia and was translated into many languages. Voynich was also known for her work as a translator and for her involvement in various political movements, including the struggle for Italian unification. She was married to Wilfrid Michael Voynich, a revolutionary and antiquarian, who is known for acquiring the Voynich Manuscript, an illustrated codex whose language has not been deciphered.
