Meena Alexander

Meena Alexander was an Indian poet, scholar, and writer. Born in Allahabad, India, and raised in India and Sudan, Alexander lived and worked in New York City, where she was a Distinguished Professor of English at Hunter College and the Graduate Center, CUNY. She published numerous collections of poetry, literary memoirs, essays, and works of fiction. Her poetry is known for its exploration of identity, migration, and the fragmented experience of the post-colonial subject. Alexander's notable works include 'Illiterate Heart', which won the PEN Open Book Award, and 'Fault Lines', a memoir considered one of her seminal works.
