Andre Norton

Andre Norton was a prolific American writer of science fiction and fantasy, who also wrote works of historical fiction and contemporary fiction. Born Alice Mary Norton on February 17, 1912, she wrote under the pen name Andre Norton to increase her marketability in the male-dominated genres of science fiction and fantasy. Norton's writing career spanned more than 70 years, and she was the first woman to be Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy, first to be SFWA Grand Master, and first inducted by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame. She passed away on March 17, 2005.
