Leonora Christina

Leonora Christina (1621–1698) was a Danish noblewoman and writer. She is best known for her autobiographical memoir 'Jammers Minde' (A Memory of Lament), which she wrote during her incarceration in the Blue Tower of Copenhagen. Leonora Christina was the daughter of King Christian IV of Denmark and Kirsten Munk. She was imprisoned for 22 years, accused of having knowledge of her husband Corfitz Ulfeldt's treasonous acts against the king. Her work is considered an important piece of Danish literature and gives a unique insight into 17th-century European politics and culture.
