Nikos Gatsos

Nikos Gatsos was a prominent Greek poet, lyricist, and translator. Born in 1911 in Arcadia, Peloponnese, he is best known for his long poem 'Amorgos', which was published in 1943 and is considered a masterpiece of modern Greek literature. Gatsos' work is characterized by its innovative use of language, rich imagery, and blend of Greek folkloric elements with surrealism. Besides his poetic achievements, he also made significant contributions as a lyricist for Greek music and as a translator, bringing works from Spanish, English, and French literature into Greek. He passed away in 1992, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence Greek poetry and music.
