A miller falsely boasts that his daughter can spin straw into gold, and when a greedy ruler locks her in a room to prove it a mysterious little man appears and spins the straw into gold in exchange for her necklace, then her ring, and finally a promise of her firstborn child; desperate to keep her baby she is granted three days to guess his name, learns it by overhearing him boast, and when she names it the spell is broken and the man’s claim is ended, saving her child.
