Thomas Chandler Haliburton

Thomas Chandler Haliburton was a Canadian author, politician, and judge. He is best known for his humorous writings and the creation of the character Sam Slick, a Yankee clockmaker, in 'The Clockmaker' series. Haliburton's works are considered some of the earliest examples of Canadian literature.
