Julien Offray de La Mettrie

Julien Offray de La Mettrie was a French physician and philosopher, best known for his materialist and atheistic views. He is considered one of the earliest proponents of the idea that human thought and consciousness are purely physical processes, as expressed in his work 'L'Homme Machine' (Man a Machine). His ideas were controversial and led to his exile from France.
