Pliny the Elder
Pliny the Elder was a Roman author, naturalist, and natural philosopher known for his encyclopedic work, 'Naturalis Historia'. He served as a naval and army commander of the early Roman Empire and was a friend of the emperor Vespasian. Pliny died during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
