William Hogarth

William Hogarth was an English painter, printmaker, pictorial satirist, social critic, and editorial cartoonist. He is best known for his series of paintings and engravings that satirized contemporary politics and customs, such as 'A Rake's Progress' and 'Marriage A-la-Mode'. His work is regarded as a precursor to the development of sequential art.
