John Smeaton

John Smeaton was an eminent British civil engineer, often regarded as the 'father of civil engineering.' He is best known for his work on the design of bridges, canals, harbors, and lighthouses, most notably the Eddystone Lighthouse. Smeaton was also a key figure in the development of the steam engine and was a founding member of the Society of Civil Engineers.
