Vladimir Ivanovich Vernadsky was a Russian and Soviet mineralogist and geochemist who is considered one of the founders of geochemistry, biogeochemistry, and radiogeology. He is best known for his theory of the biosphere and his work on the noosphere, which explores the impact of human thought on the environment.
