Erskine Childers

Erskine Childers was a British-born Irish author, best known for his novel 'The Riddle of the Sands' (1903), which is considered one of the early examples of the espionage thriller genre. Childers was also involved in the Irish nationalist movement and took part in the Irish War of Independence. He was executed by the authorities of the Irish Free State during the Irish Civil War in 1922.
