Albertine Sarrazin

Albertine Sarrazin was a French novelist and poet, born in Algiers and raised in France. After a turbulent youth and time in prison, she wrote acclaimed autobiographical novels including L'Astragale and La Cavale, noted for their raw, lyrical style and themes of marginalization, crime, and freedom. She died at 29 following complications from surgery.
