American literary scholar and critic of modern and contemporary poetry, known for work on postcolonial and transnational poetics; Edgar F. Shannon Professor of English at the University of Virginia; author of The Hybrid Muse and A Transnational Poetics, and co-editor of The Norton Anthology of Modern and Contemporary Poetry.
