1. Let's Go Exploring
Calvin and Hobbes
A lively blend of cultural history, criticism, and memoir that investigates the enduring appeal of Calvin and Hobbes, this book traces the comic strip’s creation, its formal brilliance and imaginative scope, and the fiercely principled choices behind its run and abrupt end. Drawing on interviews, research, and personal reflection, it examines Bill Watterson’s resistance to merchandising, the strip’s relationship to newspaper culture, and the fervent fan communities that flourished in its wake. Ultimately, it explores how a boy and his tiger reshaped readers’ sense of childhood, art, and the value of leaving at the peak.
