    History in a Bottle

A brisk, richly illustrated history of the notorious green spirit, charting its origins in Swiss apothecaries, its meteoric rise in 19th‑century France, the bohemian devotion of artists and writers, the ritual of preparation, the myths and science surrounding thujone and hallucinations, the political and moral campaigns that led to prohibition, and the late‑20th‑century reassessment and revival that restored it to bars and cultural imagination.
