Ancient Indian teacher, philosopher, economist, and royal advisor, traditionally identified as the author of the Arthashastra and the Chanakya Niti. Also known as Kautilya or Vishnugupta, he played a pivotal role in the rise of the Maurya Empire under Chandragupta Maurya.
