Adolf von Harnack

Baltic German Lutheran theologian and church historian renowned for critical studies of early Christianity and the New Testament. Author of History of Dogma and What Is Christianity?, he taught at the University of Berlin, served as General Director of the Royal Library in Berlin, and was instrumental in founding the Kaiser Wilhelm Society (now the Max Planck Society).
