  1. 1. Number

    The Language of Science

An accessible exploration of the evolution of numerical ideas, this work traces how humans moved from primitive counting and tally marks to place value, zero, negatives, irrationals, infinity, and complex numbers. Blending history, philosophy, and clear exposition, it shows how cultural needs and scientific challenges shaped notation, arithmetic, algebra, and geometry, illustrating how the concept of number emerged as a human invention that transformed thought, measurement, and the natural sciences.

  2. 2. Voor Een Verloren Soldaat

Set during the liberation of the Netherlands in World War II, this autobiographical novel follows a young Dutch boy who develops a tender but controversial intimate relationship with a visiting Canadian soldier; told through the narrator’s later memories, it examines coming-of-age, longing, shame, and the lasting emotional complexities of love and loss against the backdrop of war and recovery.
