James M. McPherson

James M. McPherson is an American Civil War historian, and is the George Henry Davis '86 Professor Emeritus of United States History at Princeton University. He is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning book 'Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era.' His research focuses on the American Civil War and Reconstruction, and he has written numerous articles and books on the period. McPherson is considered an authority on the American Civil War and has received multiple awards for his work.
