Wilhelm Heinrich Immanuel Bleek
German philologist and linguist (1827–1875) who pioneered the study and documentation of southern African languages, particularly the San (Bushman) languages; he collected vocabularies, texts, and folklore and, with Lucy Lloyd, initiated the Bleek and Lloyd collection.
