Newton Arvin

Newton Arvin was an American literary critic and academic. He was a professor at Smith College and is known for his critical studies of American literature, particularly his works on Nathaniel Hawthorne and Herman Melville. Arvin's career was marred by a scandal in the 1960s when he was arrested for possessing homosexual pornography, which led to his dismissal from Smith College.
