René Guénon

French metaphysician, philosopher, and esoteric writer (1886–1951). A leading figure of the Traditionalist School, Guénon critiqued modernity and wrote on symbolism, metaphysics, and comparative religion. He later converted to Islam, lived in Cairo, and took the name Abd al-Wahid Yahya.
