James Baldwin

American novelist, essayist, playwright, and social critic known for his incisive explorations of race, sexuality, and class in mid-20th-century America; author of Notes of a Native Son, Go Tell It on the Mountain, and The Fire Next Time; lived much of his adult life in France.
