Joshua Slocum

Joshua Slocum was a seafarer and adventurer, best known for being the first person to sail single-handedly around the world. He accomplished this feat between 1895 and 1898 aboard his sloop, Spray. Slocum documented his journey in the widely acclaimed book 'Sailing Alone Around the World', which continues to inspire sailors and adventurers. He was born on February 20, 1844, in Nova Scotia, Canada, and later became a naturalized American citizen. His later life was marked by his mysterious disappearance in 1909 while aboard the Spray, and he was presumed lost at sea.
