Doug Peacock

Doug Peacock is an American author and naturalist known for his work in environmentalism and his advocacy for the protection of grizzly bears. A Vietnam War veteran, Peacock's experiences in nature were a form of therapy for him upon his return from the war. His friendship with the author Edward Abbey influenced Abbey's classic novel 'The Monkey Wrench Gang,' and Peacock himself is the real-life inspiration for the character George Washington Hayduke. Peacock has written several books, including 'Grizzly Years: In Search of the American Wilderness' and 'Walking It Off: A Veteran's Chronicle of War and Wilderness.'
