Kenzaburō Ōe

Japanese novelist and essayist, awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1994; known for work addressing social, political and personal themes, including A Personal Matter and The Silent Cry; his experiences as the father of a son with a disability influenced much of his writing.
