Uwem Akpan

Uwem Akpan is a Nigerian author known for his short story collection 'Say You're One of Them' (2008), which won the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book (Africa Region) and was selected for Oprah's Book Club. The collection consists of five stories that depict the lives of children in various African countries facing challenging circumstances. Akpan's writing is notable for its empathetic portrayal of difficult subjects. He was ordained as a Jesuit priest in 2003 and has been praised for his unique perspective and powerful storytelling.
