Siegfried Kracauer

German writer, journalist, sociologist and film theorist (1889–1966) known for analyses of Weimar cinema and mass culture; author of From Caligari to Hitler, The Mass Ornament, and Theory of Film. Emigrated to the United States in 1933 and worked as a critic and cultural commentator.
