American playwright and essayist (1915–2005), major 20th-century dramatist best known for Death of a Salesman, The Crucible, and A View from the Bridge; his work examines the American Dream, social responsibility, and moral integrity. Winner of the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
