  1. 1. Michael Polanyi's Post Critical Epistemology

This book reconstructs and evaluates a philosophical position that rejects purely detached, critical accounts of knowledge in favor of a ‘post-critical’ view in which knowing is intrinsically personal, tacit, and rooted in commitment. It explains core concepts such as tacit knowing, subsidiary and focal awareness, indwelling, and fiduciary commitment, shows how these undermine the ideal of wholly objective, impersonal justification, and defends the claim that scientific and everyday knowing depend on personal judgement and communal traditions. The author also assesses objections, clarifies misunderstandings, and draws out implications for the philosophy of science, ethics, and the role of belief in intellectual inquiry.
