Carl Jonas Love Almquist

Carl Jonas Love Almquist was a Swedish romantic poet, early feminist, realist, composer, social critic, and travel writer. Born on November 28, 1793, in Stockholm, he was a prominent figure in the Swedish literature of the 19th century. Almquist was known for his versatile literary contributions, which included novels, poetry, plays, and essays. His most famous work is the novel 'Det går an' (It Is Acceptable), which challenged the social norms of his time, particularly in regards to marriage and the role of women in society. Almquist's life was marked by controversy, and he spent his later years in exile in the United States after being accused of forgery and attempted murder. He died on September 26, 1866, in Bremen, Germany.
